A family-owned franchise
Shane Evans and her husband, Wayne, founded the company in San Antonio,
Texas, in 2004 and opened their first franchised location in 2005. The
first Retreat was opened in an area known as Alamo Heights, which is what
inspired our name in addition to the idea that the word “Heights”
means the top of something, the best, the summit or pinnacle and that
Massage Heights could elevate a person’s being by providing a valuable,
topnotch service in an elevated spa like environment, not clinical. When
you have a massage you think more clearly, have a positive outlook and
simply feel better; you leave our Retreats a better version of yourself!
Massage Heights sprang from the idea that more people should have access
to professional massage services in an upscale environment without the
high price tag. Both Shane and Wayne had a background in the wellness
industry and sales, and they knew the membership model would be perfect.
“We both understood that model very well, and from an investment
standpoint, we knew how attractive it would be to be able to determine
your cash flow based on a recurring revenue model, as well as your staffing
and your marketing and your expenses, so we started out with a membership
model right from the get-go,” Shane says.
The massage industry is growing
The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) estimates that the $18
billion massage industry will continue growing as more people realize
the many applications of massage, and our spa franchise is particularly
well-positioned within the industry.
Consumers continue to believe in the efficacy of massage as 88% considered
massage to be effective in reducing pain and beneficial to health and
wellness. This directly correlates to the increase in frequency that consumers
are receiving massage services.
People are increasingly understanding the many benefits of massage. Even
in our luxuriant, upscale setting, there are many health benefits. “Guests
are looking for alternative treatments for pain management,” says
CEO & President Susan Boresow. “A lot of healthcare providers
are acknowledging massage as a good treatment enhancement and a viable
option for people that are trying to work on many issues, whether it's
inflammation or posture, circulation and daily stress.”
We offer affordable monthly memberships that provide Members with a high-end,
spa-like massage treatment at a price point that’s accessible. Massage
Heights has over 140 Retreats nationwide, with many prime territories
still available.
Our revenue opportunities
Franchisees benefit from the steady stream of revenue that comes from the
membership model. Massage Heights has developed programs to help new locations
acquire memberships quickly after their opening so our locations can leverage
more revenue opportunities when they offer customers discounted rates
on additional services and add-ons, such as hot stone therapy, reviving
foot scrub or hemp-infused massage.
“We're starting to see a shift in people where they're starting to
come in for the health benefits, or for pain reduction,” says CEO
& President Susan Boresow. “Being able to open up that side
of it and provide education to people on the health benefits really broadens
the potential for anyone in this business.”
