Our very own Shane Evans was featured in a Thrive Global article titled, “Lessons In Leadership: One On One With Shane Evans, Founder & President of Massage Heights”. In the article, she discusses the challenges of starting up Massage Heights with her husband and co-founder Wayne Evans, as well as the definition of an effective and aspiring leader.
“In the beginning stages as a startup company, we didn’t have the capital we needed to hire people that were qualified and deserving of higher salaries,” Shane explained in the article. “These core employees did whatever they needed to be successful which was critical to the growth we experienced in the first few years.”
Shane understood the value of having the right people in the right positions, specifically those who had the same core values. Furthermore, as soon as our company began offering franchising opportunities, she understood franchisees who have the right experience and are aligned with our culture, mission, and vision will result in success.
With regard to leadership, Shane believes the most important quality of an effective leader is having “the ability to understand people.” Establishing trust with the people you surround yourself with empowers them to “produce quality work and share ideas.”
“It’s also important to be self-aware and hold yourself accountable not only to hit goals and get the job done, but also to take ownership of the things that go wrong,” she said. “If your team is not succeeding, those in leadership roles need to reevaluate how they are holding their employees accountable and assess their overall leadership strategy.”
