Signs It’s Time to Move on From Your Current Job

|

“Life is too short to have a job you hate.” Though no disrespect to whoever coined this phrase, we have to disagree — life is too long to have a job you hate. When you think about it, you’ll spend a good part (potentially most) of your life working. So shouldn’t you love what you do?

It may be time to seriously consider leaving your job for something greater if:

1. You dread Monday mornings.

Don’t get us wrong, we know that Mondays aren’t the most beloved days, but you shouldn’t dread the start of the work week.

2. You’re not passionate about what you do.

If you spend your days just waiting for it to be 5 p.m., you’re likely not passionate about your work. If you work 40 hours a week, you’ll spend almost 2,000 hours a year working. Do you want to spend that much time doing something you don’t like?

3. There’s no room for you to grow.

Have you been in the same position for years? Does management consistently hire from outside the organization? Don’t waste your time and talent in an organization that doesn’t encourage you to grow.

4. The company has a high turn over rate.

Though you never want to blindly base your decision on the actions of others, it’s something to be wary of. If coworkers are leaving left and right, you may be working in an unhealthy environment.

5. You procrastinate more than you work.

If you spend your days on social media or chatting with others as a way of getting out of work, this can mean a few things — either you don’t have enough work to do or you’re not excited by your work.

6. You spend your nights complaining about work.

We all have off days at work, and it’s normal to complain once in a while but if you’re complaining each night about your job, it’s clearly a negative stressor in your life.

7. Your suggestions never come to fruition.

One of the biggest reasons why people quit their jobs is because they don’t feel appreciated or valued. If you consistently offer advice and suggestions, but they’re never seriously considered, your talents and creativity may be going to waste.
